Description

ASUS Chromebook Flip CX1 laptops undergo multiple laptop quality tests but are not subject to all tests stated. The testing data includes the requirements of both military-grade standards and ASUS quality tests. Ultimately, every design choice appears to stem from wanting to have a 15.6-inch display, but without considering if this was even a good idea. The dimness of the display makes it all but unusable anywhere but inside, and chances are that extra screen real estate is just going to give you more to look at in frustration when the app you're running hangs or slows down due to the underpowered hardware. Of course, it runs on Google’s Chrome OS. This lightweight operating system places the onus on online applications and usage, though it’s not without offline functionality. Unless otherwise stated, WiFi speeds are based on theoretical performance. Actual performance may vary. The battery life for Chromebooks is typically decent, but in the case of the CX1, it scrapes through as being pretty average.

With a quoted brightness of just 220 nits, this isn’t the most vibrant of panels and it can be a little dim, even for day-to-day working. If you’re planning on working outside on a bright day, the Asus Chromebook CX1 may not be an ideal companion. Given the CX1’s status as a wallet-friendly Chromebook, I had no real expectations on it to do anything but the basics well. If we talk about the Asus Chromebook CX15, the 4GB+64GB variant is priced at Rs.19,990, the 4GB+128GB model is priced at Rs.20,990, and the 8GB+64GB variant is priced at Rs.21,990. ASUS Chromebook CX14 & Chromebook CX15: Specifications and featuresThere are some areas where the CX1500 does well, like its 10 hour 18 minute battery life, but that's pretty much standard for Chromebooks nowadays. You'd think that a chip with a TDP of just 6W and a display with just 220 nits of brightness should at least squeeze out some extra juice. The stated width of the side bezel is the distance between the edge of the non-active screen display area and the inside edge of the case. If the case width is included, the side bezel width is 6.76 mm. The stated width of the bottom bezel is the distance between the edge of the non-active screen display area and the visible edge of the display when the laptop is opened to 90 °. These measurements are based on the standard (without anti-glare) display configuration. Chromebooks have always been the bastion of budget computing, and Asus’ large-screen candidate – the CX1 – aims to sustain that trend. ASUS Chromebook CX1 keyboard is spill-resistant, not waterproof. Water damage is possible if the product is submerged or exposed to large amounts of liquids for long periods of time. ASUS standard limited warranty does not cover problems resulting from accidents such as water damage. To prevent water damage resulting from large spills or other accidents, ASUS recommends turning off the notebook, then tilting the laptop to drain away the excess liquid, wipe off and let it dry for at least 24 hours. Unless otherwise stated, all data-transfer speeds are based on theoretical performance. Actual performance may vary.

The same thing is also true once you lift up the lid of the CX1, as you’re greeted with a compact 60% keyboard layout and an awful lot of empty space. Other laptops with this chassis space will at least provide you with a number pad, which would have been welcome here. For the money, you’re getting a 15.6in Full HD display with a 77% screen-to-body ratio. This display can also be laid completely flat courtesy of a flexible 180-degree hinge, which makes it great for sharing ideas with multiple parties. The Asus Chromebook CX1 isn’t going to turn many heads with its design or build quality. While its silver colouring and smooth finish on the top surface look fine, I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by the way the CX1 feels in hand. By contrast to other more budget Chromebooks like the Acer Chromebook 314, it just feels generic. Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta): Requires Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (or supported free-to-play game) and supported Bluetooth controller (each sold separately). Ultimate subscription can be cancelled anytime to stop future charges. Streaming limitations apply; server availability and wait times may vary. Game catalog and free to play titles vary over time, by region, and by device. Requires internet, ISP fees apply. xbox.com/gamepass Only devices that meet early access minimum requirements can run the game. The testing regime includes the requirements of both military-grade standards and ASUS quality tests, and varies depending on device. MIL-STD-810 testing is conducted on selected ASUS products only. Note that the MIL-STD-810 testing helps to ensure the quality of ASUS products but does not indicate a particular fitness for military use. The test is performed under laboratory conditions. Any damage caused by attempts to replicate these test conditions would be considered accidental, and would not be covered by the standard ASUS warranty. Additional coverage is available with ASUS Premium Care. ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 is certified with ASUS WiFi Master for ChromeOS. Device certified with WiFi Master for ChromeOS feature WiFi 6E and offer enhanced WiFi stability when USB 3.2 Gen 2 interference is present, allowing users to stream smoothly when they are up to 225 meters away from a router. WiFi 6E network card is available on selected models. The connectivity of WiFi 6E band may vary according to the regulation and certification of each country/ region. On a brighter note, the screen bezel on the sides are small enough to make sure the CX1 offers up a good screen to body ratio. This also meant viewing angles were pretty decent. Performance ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip is certified with ASUS WiFi Master Premium for ChromeOS. Device certified with ASUS WiFi Master Premium for ChromeOS feature WiFi 6 and offer enhanced WiFi stability when USB 3.2 Gen 2 interference is present, allowing users to stream smoothly when they are over 225 metres away or more from a router.ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 is certified with ASUS WiFi Master for ChromeOS. If the case width is included, the side bezel width is 7 mm. The stated width of the bottom bezel is the distance between the edge of the non-active screen display area and the visible edge of the display when the laptop is opened to 90 °. These measurements are based on the standard (without anti-glare) display configuration. This is clear the moment you look at its spec sheet, which offers up an Intel Celeron N3350 processor alongside 32GB of eMMC storage and 4GB of RAM. These are very entry-level specs, even by Chromebook standards.

For a laptop with a 15.6-inch display, it feels quite hefty with a total weight of 1.8kg. This puts it on the heavier side of the market, but I found it still feels pretty portable if you do need to take it on your travels. The testing data includes the requirements of both military-grade standards and ASUS quality tests.

For connectivity, you get Wi-Fi 6, two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, and a microSD slot. That makes it better connected than many Windows laptops selling for several times the price.
