About this deal

You will find yourself referring to The Almanac all year long, revisiting it again and again, and looking forward to the next edition as the year draws to a close. Each month has a Bun of the Month plus another appropriate recipes - just to give you a taste (see what I did there) of what to expect fig and tahini challah, meadowsweet champagne and marzipan hot cross buns are all on offer.

It is a book that would make a wonderful gift for a family member or friend because I know I was delighted to receive my copy. This book is so valuable because it gives the actual dates for significant events in 2023, of holidays, special days and so much more. The front cover is sooo gorgeous, perfectly designed with themed drawings of planets, nature, animals, in beautiful eye catching colours. January – there are important dates for this month followed by a wonderful page of what January represents, it is a time of reflection as the daylight hours are not as long as we would like.

Slightly Foxed introduces its readers to books that are no longer new and fashionable but have lasting appeal. Then I discovered Lia Leendertz and her 'seasonal guide' Almanacs published in Great Britain every year which make it a breeze!

There is a beautiful drawing for the start of every month, often linked to the zodiac sign which is further detailed in the text.Reconnect with the seasons in Britain and Ireland with The Almanac, a month-by-month guide to the world around us. There are also features on each month’s unique nature, with this instalment following the swirling micro world of the garden pond through the year. There are also a couple of paragraphs about what shrubs, plants and trees are starting to flower as well as what you can harvest from your veg garden. Written in an accessible style with some super smattering of humour in a conversational tone, readers will find recipes and songs, notable dates and traditions, the zodiac and gardens so that there’s everything from the seas to the skies contained here.

A classic month by month guide to the world around us, including key dates, tide tables, the zodiac, seasonal recipes, the solar system even music, plus so much more. I’m hoping to pick up some gardening tips too, as there is a feature for the best gardening and planting times every month. There’s a handy index at the back, a ribboned bookmark, lots of drawings and a textured cover which add to make this a must have book for 2023! An Almanac also gives information about the Zodiac, here the author includes an introduction to the zodiac and gives information for Capricorn followed by a folk song. This is a fabulous little book that I adored picking through and if you are a fan of nature, the natural world and planning for gardening, then this is a gorgeous book to have. This I will follow through the year as I always do, and this year especially the fabulous seasonal recipes, folk songs and exactly when to do things in the garden through each Moon quarter of the month.
