About this deal

In 12 Hours She Was Dead': Read Roald Dahl's Heartbreaking Letter to Anti-Vaxxers After His Daughter Died From Measles". A mysterious stranger traps teen siblings in a precarious game where each must overcome their embittered past for the other to survive. James and the Giant Peach, the first of these to reach print, is a comic fantasy about a small boy who travels the world inside a huge peach, in company with several giant insects.

One of the most lasting and widely read children s novels, uncommon in the first issue, and very scarce inscribed. It was first produced in 2001 by the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff and Birmingham Stage Company, who then toured it all over the UK. One of the advantages of having children is that you get to enjoy reading the children's classics again, and pick up the subtleties you missed the first time. Despite Roald Dahl having enjoined his publishers not to "so much as change a single comma in one of my books", in February 2023 Puffin Books, a division of Penguin Books, announced it would be re-writing portions of many of Dahl's children's novels, changing the language to, in the publisher's words, "ensure that it can continue to be enjoyed by all today. So how did Roald Dahl make his young readers feel that being in a giant peach with insects more appealing? Essentially, James is in a nightmare scenario – at least he doesn’t fear the insects and an arachnid, but I know if I was in that situation, I’d want to get out the peach and away from the insects as quickly as possible. Blind stamped portrait inside a wreath on the front cover and the Knopf logo blind stamped on the bottom right hand corner of the back cover. If successful, it can teach you the foundations of how to build healthy relationships for the rest of your life.

The last cover; there is something about it that I like but at the same time - I don't really like the photograph of the nut from the centre of a peach or the type. We wanted to celebrate the Roald Dahl centenary by putting a selection of 'wondercrump' books Roald Dahl has written into one perfect list. The book and the descriptions are really well written and vivid, making the book an easy read for its target audience. The event was organised to raise money for the global-non profit Partners In Health, founded by Dahl's daughter Ophelia, which had been fighting COVID-19 in vulnerable areas; with Roald Dahl Story Co. There have been re-illustrated versions of it over the years, done by Michael Simeon (for the first British edition), Emma Chichester Clark, Lane Smith and Quentin Blake.

High above the clouds, the peach encounters the Cloud-Men, who are portrayed as responsible for weather phenomena like hailstorms and rainbows. Just like that, an average snow day—usually filled with hot cocoa and snowball fights—is commandeered by the stranger, who forces the siblings into a dangerous game. First edition, second printing; second printing [with "The Book Press" imprint on colophon page], in fine second issue dust jacket (with ISBN number on rear panel). In James and the Giant Peach, more than seventy changes were made, such as removing references to Sponge as fat (including writing an entirely new poem), changing queer to strange, removing references to skin colour (such as "his face white with horror", "looking white and thin", and the Earthworm's "lovely pink skin"), and changing Cloud-Men to Cloud-People.
